5 out of 5:
Best News Magazine, Period
Reviewer:
Randy Given (Manchester, CT USA)
This
continues to be the best news magazine, period. I have
subscribed to it on and off for years. Whenever I travel by
plane, I pick up the latest issue
of the economist magazine at the news stand because
it provides in-depth analysis and coverage over a wide
variety of news items. Not to mention coverage of science
and the arts. Each issue is worth its full price, so the
subscription price is worth it. It may seem high, but not if
you value timely, accurate, detailed coverage. Keep in mind
that you can get an online-only subscription for about half
price (online access is free with the print subscriptions).
If you have never tried it, certainly buy a couple issues.
Then try a one-year economist subscription. Your mind will thank you.
3 out of 5:
Free Markets on one hand, Anti-Semitic on the other
Reviewer: A magazine reader
The economist magazine believes in free market economics, yet it also
believes in being an apologetic to terrorism. It has an
unbelievable bias against Israel, and it incessantly sides
with leaders from groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Furthermore, when it comes to Africa, the paper sounds like
its coming from the mouth of Karl Marx. For Economics I give
this paper an A, for political analysis I give the economist
an F. Hence my 3 star rating
2 out of 5:Good
but linear Reviewer:
A
magazine reader The
Economist is a good magazine but the proscriptions it gives
are based on linear, steady-state economics--and in the long
run we are all dead. It gives short term gamesmanship and
chaotic theory short shrift (somebody once noted most
corporations in the long run go bankrupt, so the short-term
is very important for an economy). As such, it tends to get
a bit boring and predictable.
Also, as a minor quibble, it is much more liberal (modern
sense) and less anti-statistic and doom and gloom than it
was a while ago, as another poster noted. I prefer a
librarian, no-government advocacy in op-eds, but that is
just an advocacy position, which reasonable people can
quibble over. However, all in all, the economist
magazine is good,
only because of the poor competition. And it has great
stories if you are international in scope.
5
out of 5:Great
Reviewer:
Roberto
Colanzi (Melbourne, Australia)
The
Economist has consistently been the best international
political and economic journal. The strength of its
research, analysis and journalism is superb. The
presentation is crisp, clean and doesn't ever distract
from the content. The magazine usually far surpasses its
rivals. A
one year economist subscription is Highly Recommended. |
