Reviews(21-25)
4 out of 5: God Save the economist Reviewer:
Leon
Marcel Bodevin (Austin, Texas) On
the one hand, the economist
magazine is extremely snotty, its news
often has an free-market conservative slant, and its
coverage of U.S. news could be much better (often, the
American news just seems to consist of basic roundups that
could have been obtained from the AP). But then again, there
is no other place where you can find this much well-written
news about the rest of the world in one place. And the
business section is always fascinating. For anyone who cares
what is going on in politics or business outside of America,
the
economist
is highly recommended.

Make You An Informed Member of Society Reviewer:
Leon
Marcel Bodevin (Austin, Texas) I
subscribed to The Economist three weeks ago and I have to
say I am very impressed so far. I don't know of any other
magazine that gives you such a great feel for everything
that is going on in the world. The issues are dealt with in
such an informed way that one gets the feeling one is
reading an academic journal on diplomacy and economics
rather than a newsweekly. I was particularly impressed with
a recent article on the neo-conservatives in Bush's White
House. The recent article on the Korean crisis was equally
enlightening. I cannot recommend this magazine enough.
I have renewed my economist subscription for another year.

Every Penny Reviewer:
Douglas
Gabbard (Dixon, IL )
The
best part about The Economist is that it is extremely
well-written--albeit in British English. The breadth of its
coverage is also quite extraordinary. The ideological bent
(global capitalism) is discernible, but it does not reduce
the quality of the reporting. The economist
magazine
is simply the best weekly news magazine in the English (albeit
British) language.

Best Source of World News in the English Language Reviewer:
Paul
Becker (Buffalo Grove, IL USA) The
Economist is quite simply the very best English language
source of international news in print. Its wide range of
articles keep you informed on a multitude of subjects
from politics to business to the arts and sciences. It
is timely and in-depth, an indispensable tool for any
critically thinking mind. Some may complain that its too
conservative but that does not negate the fact that if
you want to be well informed this is the place to go. I
will never forget my first issue (Mar. 99), given to me
by an ardentent Marxist professor when I was in college
who told me "It may be too conservative for my
taste but
the economist magazineis still the best source of news available
in English.
